Fun with Photos  View Printable Version
Wednesday, November 11 2009 @ 04:41 PM Central Standard Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolThe LifeTouch disks are coming in, and student photos are being loaded onto PowerSchool. You will soon see a thumbnail photo next to the student's name on every student page!

Here's something you may not know. If you select a group of students, then choose the "List Students" option, try typing in "studentphoto" for one of the fields you'd like to include in the list!

How do you find out which students do not have a photo and may need to go to picture re-take day? Search for "PhotoFlag#1".

Perfect Attendance  View Printable Version
Wednesday, November 04 2009 @ 11:51 AM Central Standard Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolTo find students with perfect attendance, follow these steps:

Select a group of students (optional)

Start Page > Special Functions > Search For Perfect Attendance

Attendance Mode to use = Meeting

Students to scan: Either the group you selected, or all currently enrolled students

Date range to scan: Enter the beginning and ending dates PowerSchool should search

Disregard codes: Enter any attendance codes that PowerSchool should ignore. For example, the attendance code "A" represents a school activity. Students participating in a school activity probably shouldn't be counted absent for a Perfect Attendance count. Be sure to specify which attendance codes should NOT be counted against the student.

Click submit.

PowerSchool will run the search, resulting in a new selection of students. Using the Group Functions options, you can now do any number of things, including printing a report, mailing labels, or listing the students.

Another Health Chart  View Printable Version
Monday, October 26 2009 @ 02:33 PM Central Daylight Time

PowerSchoolLast week, I showed you how you could use the Class Rosters (PDF) report to create an ad-hock Health Screening Chart. Using the same techniques, you should be able to use that particular report to generate any number of lists, based on class rosters.

What if you want the health chart, but not restricted to any particular class list though? In this case, I've created what is called an Object Report in PowerSchool for this specific purpose. An Object Report is a type of report that you are unable to modify the appearance of, but that can be printed for any group of students.

If you wanted to print off the charts for all 8th grade students, click the "8" on the start page to select all 8th graders, then from the drop-down menu, click on "Print a Report". Select the "Health Screening Form" and click submit. PowerSchool will generate the PDF file for you, and leave it in your print queue.

PowerSchoolThe Class Rosters (PDF) report has a lot of flexibility in what information you can display with it. You can add various fields or even blank columns to your printed report.

This article will show how to print health charts that nurses can use when doing their health screenings.

Revised Comment Bank  View Printable Version
Tuesday, October 06 2009 @ 09:35 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolTeachers who've used InteGrade Pro over the past several years know that the comment bank was incredibly unwieldy, often repeating the exact same comment multiple times. It was decided that we were going to re-work those comments and try to get a more efficient list for use in PowerTeacher Grade Book.

We began by putting it to a vote. Teachers were invited to complete an online survey, where they indicated their favorite, most often used comments, and which comments worked best for the subject area that they taught.

Click the "read more" link below to continue and to download a spreadsheet containing the current list of comments...

Monday, October 05 2009 @ 08:38 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolThe ability to search for students on a district-wide basis has now been added to PowerSchool. This feature will allow you to identify the building where any given student is attending, and what their current enrollment status is. This feature does not allow you to open student records for editing.

Directly under the search field on the Start Page, click the "District Search" link to open the search page. You can enter a full last name, or partial last name. For example:

Seating Charts Now Available For PowerTeacher!  View Printable Version
Friday, October 02 2009 @ 07:20 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

The past few weeks have been a very busy period of time, and most of my efforts have gone to implementing features that administrative users of PowerSchool have required.

Even so, I want to make sure that teacher concerns are also being met, and one concern I've heard from a number of people is the ability to create seating charts.

I'm happy to announce that as of today, I have implemented a solution to this request that I think you will like. It will allow you to create seating charts complete with student name and photo with drag-and-drop ease. You can save the chart layout, and even print it out to leave for a substitute.

Barring any configuration issues, this solution is fully implemented and ready to go. You can access seating charts by clicking the "Double Chair" icon from your Power Teacher start page.

*Please note, the seating charts program seems to work better in some web browsers than in others - If you have any problems with it, please try a different web browser. (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari)

*Also note, as of this date, only the High School has received student photos back from LifeTouch for this year.

Low Current Grades Report  View Printable Version
Wednesday, September 30 2009 @ 10:13 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolThere is a new report available to PowerSchool Admin users. The Low Current Grades report will allow you to search for students who have low or failing grades before the end of the term. This does NOT return final grades, but only those grades that are "in progress" from within the teacher's grade book.

Options include:

  • Selectable term
  • Search by "D's and F's", "Only D's", "Only F's" and more
  • Minimum number of matches allows you to see students who are in danger of failing a single course, or to see students who are in danger of flunking several courses
  • Search all students, or your currently selected students
  • Sort by Student, Teacher, Course, Expression (period), or percent

Click the "Read More" link below to see a screenshot of the report.

Additional Contacts Added to PowerTeacher  View Printable Version
Tuesday, September 29 2009 @ 11:10 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolOn the Demographics Page in PowerTeacher, there are now 5 additional Parent/Guardian information areas. They are listed at the bottom of the page, and include the following fields:

  • Relation
  • Name
  • Home Phone
  • Work Phone
  • Email

Please note, this information is being pulled from custom fields in the database. As we settle on common data entry practices district-wide, some custom fields may be eliminated.
