Seating Charts Now Available For PowerTeacher!  View Printable Version

PowerSchoolATTENTION TEACHERS!!!

The past few weeks have been a very busy period of time, and most of my efforts have gone to implementing features that administrative users of PowerSchool have required.

Even so, I want to make sure that teacher concerns are also being met, and one concern I've heard from a number of people is the ability to create seating charts.

I'm happy to announce that as of today, I have implemented a solution to this request that I think you will like. It will allow you to create seating charts complete with student name and photo with drag-and-drop ease. You can save the chart layout, and even print it out to leave for a substitute.

Barring any configuration issues, this solution is fully implemented and ready to go. You can access seating charts by clicking the "Double Chair" icon from your Power Teacher start page.

*Please note, the seating charts program seems to work better in some web browsers than in others - If you have any problems with it, please try a different web browser. (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari)

*Also note, as of this date, only the High School has received student photos back from LifeTouch for this year.

Low Current Grades Report  View Printable Version
Wednesday, September 30 2009 @ 10:13 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolThere is a new report available to PowerSchool Admin users. The Low Current Grades report will allow you to search for students who have low or failing grades before the end of the term. This does NOT return final grades, but only those grades that are "in progress" from within the teacher's grade book.

Options include:

  • Selectable term
  • Search by "D's and F's", "Only D's", "Only F's" and more
  • Minimum number of matches allows you to see students who are in danger of failing a single course, or to see students who are in danger of flunking several courses
  • Search all students, or your currently selected students
  • Sort by Student, Teacher, Course, Expression (period), or percent

Click the "Read More" link below to see a screenshot of the report.

PowerSchoolOn the Demographics Page in PowerTeacher, there are now 5 additional Parent/Guardian information areas. They are listed at the bottom of the page, and include the following fields:

  • Relation
  • Name
  • Home Phone
  • Work Phone
  • Email

Please note, this information is being pulled from custom fields in the database. As we settle on common data entry practices district-wide, some custom fields may be eliminated.

Attendance Log  View Printable Version
Monday, August 24 2009 @ 08:56 AM Central Daylight Time
Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolAttendance Clerks - you can now add comments regarding attendance via the Log Entries feature in PowerSchool.

How to add a log entry:
[Select student] > Log Entries > Click New

Modify the Date / Time / Author fields if necessary. (I would certainly change the date field to match the date of the attendance issue. I would also change the time field if you want the log entry to corrospond with a certain period of the day)

Enter a title, and the comment in the "Log Entry Text" box.

Leave all other fields alone.

Click Submit at the bottom of the page.

How to search for Log Entries:
To view the log entries for a specific student, use the same procedure detailed above. On the page where the New button is, all their log entries will be displayed.

To SEARCH for log entries...

Start Page > Special Functions > Search Log Entries

Enter any search criteria and click Submit

Contributed by: bcbrock

PowerSchoolWhether or not a student has an IEP is a piece of information that must be reported to the state. We can therefore use the state IEP field to identify students that have an IEP.

[Select Student] > State/Province - IA > Fall/Spring Submission > D0290 - IEP Indicator*

To get a list of students that have either a "PK Instructional IEP or K-12 any IEP" OR a "PK Support Services Only", enter the following into the Start Page:

IA_IEP # 0
